. So ive got the Dow Jones Industrial Average
1 year chart up here. Im going to use this for demonstration purposes today. But first I want to define what a moving average study is for those of you who may be unfamiliar with the term. Basically, a moving average is a frequently used technical analysis term and what it is meant to show is the average value of a security's price over a set.period of time. You will often hear traders refer to the 50 day and 200 day moving averages and this is simply meant to emphasize the direction of a trend and to smooth out any price fluctuations, or what traders refer to as noise over a period of time. To insert the studies it is really simple. We go up here to studies. I left click on show all. I left click on select. And it is going to direct me to the chart studies screen. You will notice on the very top under upper you have moving average. Left click there. And to the right under selected studies it is going to default to the 15 day moving average. So lets say I want to insert the 50 day. I highlight 15 and type in 50. Then I go back and left click on moving average. And there it goes. I now have my 50 day moving average. And I also want my 200 day moving average. So im going to go and type in 200 and left click on moving average. Now I have my 200 day moving average. And lets say I want to remove the 15 day because I really dont care to see that. So there you go. You have your 50 and 200 day moving average. Now you can change your default studies. Say for example tomorrow you type in Google once you load up your trading application. And you want your 50 and 200 day moving average to appear with every chart you bring up from this point forward. You would go to this icon here, beside use selected studies for all new charts and left click there. And from this point forward once you save a 50 day and 200 day moving average would appear in every chart. You can also click on do not apply and it would only appear in this chart, and then moving forward any new charts it would not appear. So I do want it to appear in every chart. Left click on save. Its going to load my new chart. And there you go. Im showing my 50 day and 200 day moving average for the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Go to tradeMONSTER.com
