What are Shares Float?
The number of stock shares which are owned by the pubic and available for trading in the market. Shares float is derived by subtracting restricted shares from total number of outstanding shares.
Shares Float = Outstanding shares – Restricted Shares
Why You Care
For instance, a particular company may possess outstanding shares of 20 million but only 15 million of them are actually trading in the market. It means that company has a share float of 15 million. Stock of the company with lesser float are more likely to be volatile than those with higher floats.
